OpenRep SYNOPSIS Manual

Basics

The design of OpenRep SYNOPSIS is very intuitive, it uses the standard Microsoft Windows interface, which means, that most of the functions are activated by clicking, the mouse buttons. Opening menus in most of the components can be performed by clicking the right mouse button on the desired item. OpenRep SYNOPSIS also fully supports the Drag&Drop capability.

Any text component can be resized, so that the font size is changed in the components by clicking the component (such as list of repertories, repertorization, etc.) and pressing the ALT+UP to increase the font size or ALT+DOWN to decrease the font size.

The main screen of OpenRep SYNOPSIS consists of 4 sections:

  • 1. List of repertories
  • 2. Repertory contents
  • 3. Current repertorization
  • 4. Repertorization results

OpenRep SYNOPSIS allows for the customization of the main window by allowing to show / hide any of the sections. This can be done in the Window | Display main menu by selecting or unselecting any of the components.

1. List of repertories

The list of repertories contains all the imported repertories that can be used in repertorization. After clicking on the repertory name, it will be opened and the Repertory contents (2) will display the currently selected repertory section. After double-clicking the repertory name, the list of repertory sections will be displayed and it is possible to select a section to display.

The name of the currently opened repertory is highlighted in red and it contains the main sections of the repertory. After clicking on a main section, it will be opened in the Repertory contents (2).

In this way, it is possible to open either only a certain section of the repertory (Abdomen, Back, Generalities, etc.), or to see the complete repertory. To see the list of all sections (the complete repertory), simply click on the repertory name again.

After clicking the right mouse button on the name of the repertory, it is possible to:

  • Import new repertory
  • Search and import repertories
  • Remove repertory
  • Set as DEFAULT repertory

Import new repertory

This option allows to import a new repertory by locating its repertory descriptor file (a file with the .rd extension). After importing the repertory, it will be automatically insered into the list of available repertories.

Search and import repertories

After clicking this option and selecting a folder, OpenRep will attempt to locate and import all repertories located within the selected folder.

Remove repertory

Remove repertory option will remove the repertory which was right-clicked from the list of available repertories. The removed repertory will not be deleted from the disk, it will be only removed from Openrep and can be imported again.

Set as DEFAULT repertory

The right-clicked repertory will be always automatically opened on startup.

2. Repertory contents

The repertory contents can be displayed in two different ways: tree-view, or the book-view.

Tree-view (default)

The repertory contents contain the list of all symptoms in the repertory or in the repertory section selected in the List of repertories (1). The Repertory contents also contain the search results from the search in repertory (repertories).

Symptoms in repertories have different icons:

The symptom is a rubric and contains sub-rubrics. To see the list of sub-rubrics, double-click the symptom name

The symptom does not contain any sub-rubrics.

The symptom contains a cross-reference to different symptoms.

 The symptom contains a comment.

 The symptom is a cross-reference.

Right-clicking a symptom opens a menu that allows to use more capabilities. By clicking F1 or selecting the Display remedies the homeopath can view the complete contents of the symptom. In the newly opened dialog, it is possible to filter-out the remedies with less significant grades or sort by remedy names or remedy grades. The Explore rubric option (also activated by the F3 key) displays the remedies from the current rubric, as well as from all the sub-rubrics. The Add/Edit comment allows adding or editing a comment to a symptom. In this way it is possible to make notes about the meanings of the symptoms etc.

Book view of repertory

The symptoms in the repertory can be arranged either as a tree (default), or as a book. The book view displays the list of symptoms and the remedies in all the symptoms. This however means, that although this view features more information, generating such a view takes much more time, than displaying the tree view and is therefore not recommended for slower computers.

3. Current repertorization

The current repertorization list contains the list of all symptoms added to it. To view the contents of a symptom, double-click it to see all remedies with grades.

Different colors of the symptom names identify the different symptom grades (symptom grade signifies the importance of a symptom in the repertorization).

Icons specify the different symptom filters:

Positive filter (only the remedies in this symptom will be shown in the repertorization results)
Negative filter (none of the remedies in this symptom will be shown in the repertorization results)
Ignore filter (symptom is ignored in repertorization)

3. Repertorization results

The repertorization results table allows a quick overview of the results of repertorization. The first column contains the remedy shortcut, the second contains the number of occurrences of the remedy in all the symptoms and the third one specifies the repertorization score calculated on the basis of importance of symptoms in the repertorization

To sort the quick repertorization table according to Remedy shortcut, Occurrence count or Value score, simply click the column name in the table. By repeated clicking on the same column, the sort can be performed as ascending or descending.
